Armstrong-Hilton: Communication & Development

Theses and dissertations are the pinnacle of a student’s research output to date. Our editors approach thesis and dissertation editing as though it were their own work, drawing on their postgraduate experience and editorial skills to hone your expression without changing its meaning.

Experienced Native English Editors
Our editors are all native English speakers, educated mainly to the postgraduate level at top-ranking research universities. They draw on their own postgraduate experience to ensure that the quality of your thesis or dissertation passes the scrutiny of supervisors and examiners.

Subject Specialist + Language Editor
Your thesis or dissertation is reviewed by a subject specialist to ensure compliance with the stylistic, result-reporting and referencing conventions of your field, followed by a language specialist who focuses on general linguistic and stylistic issues to enhance the overall readability.

Special Discount for Students
All postgraduate students who commission us to edit their thesis or dissertation are entitled to a special discount of up to 20%, depending on word count.

Extra Services

Formatting
We are happy to conform to any of the various formatting requirements for our clients. Adhering to the APA or Chicago Manual of Style requires 20% additional time (and an equivalent surcharge), while adhering to specific journal guides requires 30% additional time (thus an equivalent surcharge).
Editor Report
The Editor’s Report is available for a flat fee for those who would like to improve their writing. This report outlines the key grammatical and stylistic areas of your writing that would benefit from improvement in future.

Editing Certificate
Provided free-of-charge when requested, you can use the Editing Certificate to prove that your document has been edited by a professional English language editing service.

File Types

We can edit in all file types, including Word, LaTex and PDF. However, editing is much more efficient if we can use a Word or LaTex file. This allows us to edit electronically, rather than by hand. If we work with a PDF, then we must print the document and hand write the edits, making it much more difficult for you to incorporate the changes.

If you have the LaTex (.tex) file, we can open that in Word and edit it using the “Track Changes” function. We will be careful not to touch any of the LaTex code, meaning that you can copy the finalised document back into your LaTex editor.

Of course, if you would prefer not to send the Word or LaTex file, we can work on the printed PDF instead.

We offer student discounts for editing post-grad theses and dissertations.

We are also open to discussing discounts based on contracted volumes or sole editor arrangements for departments, faculties, research centres and administrative units.
